Welcome to New Lemuria
The home of Homo Liberatus
What if humanity was freed from fear?
Long ago, an ancient race from the lost island of Lemuria evolved beyond fear, unlocking superhuman abilities and escaping Earth’s descent into madness. Now, the last of the homo liberatus dream of reclaiming their homeworld from a hidden menace: energy vampires — psychopaths who thrive on suffering and rule from the shadows.
In 1985, Yan, born of a fearless father and a human mother, returns to Earth on a mission that is both deeply personal and universally vital. His quest begins in the haunted ruins of the Belarusian Khatyn. Yan must confront the vampire who murdered his mother along with the whole Khatyn’s population in 1943. But the truth has been buried under decades of mind control, KGB secrets, and manipulated memories.
As Yan navigates Soviet archives, befriends a conflicted intelligence officer, and heals a dying hypnotist, he uncovers a far-reaching conspiracy stretching back to the Nazi occupation. His pursuit leads him to a war criminal in disguise and a fateful love with a gifted teenage girl destined to bear the next generation of homo liberatus.
In this sweeping epic of memory, justice, and evolution, Homo Liberatus explores what it means to be truly human… and whether redemption is possible for those who feed on the light of others.
The novel contains numerous quotes from documented interrogations of former Nazi collaborators served in Schutzmannschaft Battalion 118 (Ukrainian Schuma) in 1942 - 1945 during trials conducted in 1945 - 1986. The quotes have been translated into English by the author.
"As homo sapiens share energy, accept “miracles,” and confront a truth that simmers beyond the reality of their daily experience, readers embark on a powerful journey that reconsiders the essence and hallmarks of humanity itself...
...Diverse microcosms of purpose and perspective contribute to an intricate story which will cross genres to engross political thriller and fantasy audiences alike...
...Replete with unexpected discoveries and connections, Mission Homo Liberatus: The Beginning presents a journey into a conspiracy that holds its roots in World War II but stretches them into revised possibilities for the next generation of homo liberatus in approaches quite suitable for book club discussion and thriller audience immersion."

Reviews
A surprising novel that blends science fiction, myth and history into a dense and original plot. Yan, the son of a fearless father and a human mother, returns to Earth to face a past marked by the Khatyn massacre and a global conspiracy of “energy vampires” who feed on suffering. Vantara intertwines historical trauma with spiritual and dystopian elements, creating a visionary and profound tale. The post-Soviet atmosphere is effectively rendered, and the themes of human evolution, memory and inner freedom emerge powerfully. An ambitious and intense work, recommended for those seeking thoughtful and unconventional historical fantasy fiction.
This is a very insightful read; the book will make you rethink how the world runs and shine a light on society's fundamental problems. I definitely recommend this historical fantasy novel! Kudos Marina!
Marina Vantara’s debut Mission HOMO LIBERATUS: The Beginning delivers a rare blend of gritty WWII realism and soaring science-fantasy in a brisk, ideas-driven epic. From the haunting opening in the ruins of Khatyn to the last-page cosmic reveal, Vantara builds a world where fear-free Lemurians debate whether humanity’s “energy vampires” are worth saving.
The book’s great strength is its meticulous sociological world-building. Yan’s lessons to teenager Polina feel like a crash course in speculative anthropology, yet their quiet intimacy balances out the high-concept lore of telepathy and interplanetary travel. Vantara keeps the tension high with cinematic set pieces, such as the submarine strike that cracks the Bermuda colony’s glass dome, while grounding the action in Yan’s grief and struggle to reconcile vengeance with Lemurian non-violence.
For all its talk on capitalism, addiction, and ecological crisis, the novel remains defiantly hopeful: it trusts empathy and collective action more than firepower. By the time the seers warn that even New Lemuria could repeat Earth’s mistakes, the stakes feel both cosmic and personal. Ambitious yet heartfelt, Mission HOMO LIBERATUS earns a spot beside Le Guin; this is a book for readers who like their sci-fi cerebral but emotionally resonant.
Interesting start! The book flows well and is easy to read. Firstly, I liked the idea of connection with nature. It makes one ponder where energy comes from and where it goes in the real world. Secondly, it's educational - I learnt quite a few historic facts from this book. Curious what will happen next!
Marina Vantara’s novel was exactly what I needed. The story is filled with intense, unique characters who reflect parallels to our own world through fascinating perspectives. From a broken hero driven by revenge, to a Lemurian witnessing Homo sapiens destroying the Earth with their technology, to energy vampires who pursue endless desires while exploiting the powerless; each viewpoint is compelling and thought-provoking.
It’s clear that Vantara has poured her heart and soul into this book; reading it has left a lasting, positive impression on me, especially through the emotive and powerful monologues. Overall, if you enjoy an enticing story that explores morality, history, and corruption in society, I can’t recommend Homo Liberatus highly enough.
